Entitled ‘Bourgeois Grunge’, Nanushka’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection juxtaposes the sobriety of ‘70s bourgeois society with the anarchic spirit of grunge. Marrying the sensual with the tough, the sober with the subversive, Bourgeois Grunge is about exploring the rich, complex nature of modern femininity.
The importance of texture and silhouette remains at the heart of the collection. Alongside ultra–high turtlenecks, cardigans and cut-out sweaters, robe and trench coats act as chunky, protective layers that rebel against a new, fluid take on the brand’s signature shapes. Draped waistlines, sunray pleats, waves of fringing, and fluted skirt suits deliver a sense of lightness and grace.
Ever interested in the use of tone and pattern, the collection experiments with statement splashes of pink, sage, dusty-orange, green snake print, and graphic chevron motifs - riots of color that push and pull against more restrained rust, plum-chutney, and cinnamon-brown hues.
Fall/Winter 2020 also takes traditional fabrics and seeks new, conscious iterations that respect our planet - from recycled cashmere to regenerated leather - resulting in 52% of the collection being sustainably made.
Accessories are further elevated with disruptively feminine shapes - from pleated vegan-leather knot and belt bags to knee boots in snake-embossed leather.
